Tennis has become extremely popular since the pandemic. Clubs across the city that did not have waitlists before 2020 have now capped their waitlists at 2000 people, with expected wait times of 5+ years. Because of this, our waitlist grows every year.
To ensure that the island community continues to have unlimited access to the Wards Island Tennis Club, we are adopting the WIRA constitution distinction of Community and Associate Members. Community members are people that live on the island or whose parents live on the island. We will maintain a cap on Associate tennis members, with enough buffer to ensure that we can maintain no cap on Community tennis members. We hope striking this balance will afford our club both the benefit of a thriving and active tennis community, while not restricting access to community members.
